Universities And Colleges In South Africa

How to choose an institute?

When deciding on a learning institute, you need to choose one that will be best suited for your needs. You need to consider what you would like to achieve, and where you would like to take your future career.

Research different colleges and universities and see what each of them has to offer. Look for one that has the whole package.

Do they have the course you are interested in? What is the quality of the study material? Do they offer student support? What type of learning do they offer? These are the types of questions you need to ask before simply picking a learning institution from a list.

Studying at a University

If you wish to study at a university, you need to have planned it from your high school years. In order to get accepted into particular university programmes, you need to have taken a specific set of school subjects.  Moreover, you will need a certain pass percentage to be a successful university applicant.

Studying at a College

The entrance criteria for studying at a college are not as strict as that of a university.

Further Education and Training (FET) colleges, for instance, have very few entrance requirements. Why? Their aim is to provide further education to as many people as possible.

In order to study at an FET college, students have to be over the age of sixteen. The courses offered by FET colleges are designed to equip students with marketable skills and knowledge, so that they are able to progress in the career field of their choice.
